Engineering cancelled: Sunday trains will operate as normal tomorrow

July 4, 2015

We’re told by local Northern staff that a normal Sunday train service will operate at Walkden tomorrow (5th July).

Online journey planners are still showing bus replacements, but in fact the planned engineering works have been cancelled – unfortunately it seems no-one told the national timetable computer !

It’s a good job we still have a manned Booking Office at Walkden for situations like these when online resources go bad.

Beware – major disruption to weekend trains ahead

April 2, 2015

The engineering works to upgrade Victoria station and electrify the line from Manchester to Bolton will have a drastic effect om train services to/from Walkden over the coming weekends:

  • Easter weekend – Victoria is closed to all trains but Walkden trains will run to Oxford Road and Piccadilly instead. Check National Rail Enquiries for full details of the amended times and destinations.
  • 11/12 and 18/19 AprilNo trains run to/from Walkden. A replacement bus service is planned but according to the National Rail Enquiries anyone using them will need to change to a second bus at Salford Central, and there are no services to Manchester between 7am and 6.30pm on Saturday 18th … hopefully this just indicates the timetable hasn’t been finalised yet, but in any case passengers are strongly advised to check your journey before travelling, allow extra time, and consider alternative means of transport.
