When Deltics roamed the earth (and Walkden)

April 1, 2017

We’re not a train spotting club here at FoWS, but still think many people will enjoy seeing this photo from a day in 1981 when locomotive-hauled Liverpool-Newcastle expresses were diverted through Walkden bringing Britain’s biggest baddest diesel engines to town.

Our thanks to Keith Ingram for this photo of 55 015 “Tulyar” passing the old signal box on 14th June 1981.

If you have any photos of Walkden station in bygone days (with or without trains) that you’d like to share, please get in touch with friends@walkdenstation.org.uk
