AGM postponed

March 12, 2016

Please note that our Annual General Meeting, which was scheduled for this Tuesday 15th March, has been postponed until May (date to be confirmed).

This is to allow a Community Rail representative from the new franchise operators Arriva Rail North to attend and give us an update on their plans for Walkden and community involvement generally.

The re-arranged date will be published on this blog as soon as it has been confirmed.

Walkden gets a clean up

March 5, 2016

Many thanks to our brilliant volunteers Barbara, Jennifer, Cllr Critchley and Harry “The Chopper” who spent this morning litter picking and cutting back foliage in the street areas around the station. We removed 7 bags of general rubbish, 4 bags of cans & bottles for re-cycling, and 4 bags of grennery. We hope everyone enjoys the cleaner environment (at least for a little while !)

FoWS plan to hold more regular litter picks around the station in future.

Our thanks also to Fay at Salford City Council for providing litter pickers, gloves and bags.

Congratulations also to the students from Salford College who were out in force tidying Parr Fold Park.

Northern’s Bike and Go scheme awarded

March 2, 2016

Northern’s “Bike & Go” scheme which offers bike hire from around 60 participating stations has been called one of the UK’s best rental companies according to a survey by TripAdvisor subsidiary Holiday Lettings.

Congratulations to Northern and if you’re heading off somewhere and want to cycle at your destination without lugging your bike all the way with you, why not give the scheme a try ? Rental costs just £3.80 per day and there’s a £10 Annual Subscription. See Bike & Go for full details of the scheme and participating stations.

Salford Central and Manchester Victoria to close for a week at Easter

March 2, 2016

As part of Network Rail’s “Ordsall Chord” project there will no be trains running to or from Salford Central or Manchester Victoria from Good Friday 25th March to Saturday 3rd April.

Trains to/from Walkden will use Manchester Oxford Road instead (and still call at Salford Crescent  as usual). Bus replacements will also run between Salford Crescent, Salford Central, and Victoria.

The train departure/arrival times shown on National Rail Enquiries appear to be very similar to our regular timetable, but things may change and we always advise passengers to check online before travelling.
