No trains (again) this weekend

April 17, 2015

Just a reminder than there will be no trains running to/from Walkden this weeknd.

A replacement bus service is planned but only running as far as Salford Central in the Manchester direction: from there you will have to walk or change onto a second replacement bus to reach Victoria.

Put 61016 in your phone !

April 5, 2015

61016 is a text number used to report non-emergency problems to British Transport Police (their emergency phone number is still  0800 40 50 40).

61016 can be used to report vandalism or trespassing on the tracks – problems that often escalate at this time of year with school holidays and longer evenings.

For full details, see BTP’s 61016 webpage.

Beware – major disruption to weekend trains ahead

April 2, 2015

The engineering works to upgrade Victoria station and electrify the line from Manchester to Bolton will have a drastic effect om train services to/from Walkden over the coming weekends:

  • Easter weekend – Victoria is closed to all trains but Walkden trains will run to Oxford Road and Piccadilly instead. Check National Rail Enquiries for full details of the amended times and destinations.
  • 11/12 and 18/19 AprilNo trains run to/from Walkden. A replacement bus service is planned but according to the National Rail Enquiries anyone using them will need to change to a second bus at Salford Central, and there are no services to Manchester between 7am and 6.30pm on Saturday 18th … hopefully this just indicates the timetable hasn’t been finalised yet, but in any case passengers are strongly advised to check your journey before travelling, allow extra time, and consider alternative means of transport.
