Dales Rail starts again

April 29, 2011

Good news for those of you hoping to take advantage of Lancashire Council and Northern Rail’s “Dales Rail” service to the Settle and Carlisle line as the Summer Sundays-only service starts again this weekend (Apr 24th).

As in previous years DalesRail operates one train from Blackpool to Carlisle and back from 24 April to 23 October, and a second Preston to Carlisle service from 22 May to 11 September. The trains are well timed to allow for a great day out walking or sight-seeing in the northern pennines or Yorkshire Dales.

The nearest station to Walkden served by Dales Rail is Bamber Bridge, so unfortunately a car is needed to access the trains (unless you can get to Blackburn early in the morning), but once the car is parked up you can relax and enjoy a spectacular ride through some of England’s grandest countryside on a world-famous railway line.
