Network Rail refuse to act on bridge pigeon mess

August 15, 2010

Network Rail may lack a sense of community responsibility, but they make up for it with a warped sense of humour … the following letter about the pigeons nesting on the bridge outside the station, and the health risk their mess poses for passengers, was printed on paper headed “Business In The Community Awards 2008 – Healthy Communities” !

Network Rail does not take action in respect of pigeons roosting on its bridges as they are feral creatures over which we have no control. Councils have responsibility for the cleansing of footpaths and carriageways affected by pigeon droppings.

May i suggest that you redirect your complaint to the Local Authority, requesting that they quote this response and reference number 2723478 in the event of any future correspondence.

FOWS and the Walkden Road Traders Group are determined to make Network Rail take responsibility for their bridge and install netting as they have done on many other bridges in the area.

If you think Network Rail should be doing better, why not fill in their online comment form ?
