New Transport Minister appointed

May 13, 2010

With the change of government comes a new Transport Minister – Philip Hammond MP. Mr Hammond didn’t hold the Shadow Transport job when in opposition (that was Theresa Villiers) so his policies are a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment. Both the Tories and Liberals were in favour of the High Speed link from London to the North so that looks likely to go ahead as planned, but for other rail policies we will have to await further announcements.

Mr Hammond has a hard act to follow. The former minister Lord Adonis broke a long-standing tradition by bringing intellect and passion to the job and will be greatly missed by many in the rail community and industry.
