Netting update

May 29, 2010

Unfortunately the pigeon netting due to be installed in the platform canopy has not materialised this week … but do not despair !

Apparently the contractors used by Northern Rail had some problems but we’re assured that Walkden remains at the top of the list – and marked “Urgent” – for installation of netting.

Victoria station improvement plans dashed by government cuts

May 25, 2010

The BBC are reporting that the recently announced plans to refurbishVictoria station – judged to be Britain’s worst major station last year – will be scaled back or scrapped because of cuts by the new coalition government.

The news is even worse for users of other stations in the region whose improvement schemes have been completely axed: Liverpool Central, Stockport, Crewe, Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western and Preston

As this week’s announcements are only the first phase of the government’s planned spending cuts, the region’s travellers should brace themselves for more bad news in the months ahead.
