Railway investment cut for next 5 years

November 3, 2008

Last week the Office of Rail Regulation annouced that Network Rail’s budget for the next 5 years will be £2.6bn less than the maintenance company had applied for.

How the cuts will affect individual Network Rail projects is not yet clear, but £2.6 bn is obviously a massive amount of money to have been cut and will inevitably mean more misery for rail travellers around the country as desperately needed improvements to our creaking railway network are shelved until 2015 or later.
