Second Flower Bed Planted

FOWS have added a flower bed to the Manchester platform at Walkden station. A disused timber-frame flower bed was rebuilt and the north-facing plot has been filled with a selection of shade-dwelling plants including conifers and ferns, pieris, ornamental cabbages and violas for winter colour, hellebores and euonymos. A small plot of land remains unplanted at the Wigan end of the platform, and again we appeal to any passengers or local businesses who wish to donate plants to contact FOWS at friends@walkdenstation.org.uk. FOWS wish to thank Salford City Council for the community grant which has funded the soil, compost and most of the plants (with the remainder donated by FOWS members).
